Cassie Schermbeck, Director of Christian Education (DCE), is our Director of Youth & Discipleship at Faith. Cassie, a life-long Texan, grew up in San Antonio. After beginning college at Baylor University in Waco, TX, God called Cassie to DCE and youth ministry, and she transferred to Concordia University in Seward, NE, where she met her husband, Tim Schermbeck. Cassie graduated in 1999 after serving her internship at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Irving, TX.
Tim and Cassie’s first calls were to Rockford Lutheran High School in Rockford, IL, where Tim taught and served as religion department chair, and Cassie served in the counseling office, working with chapel, listening to students, directing student led activities, leading Bible studies, and teaching a class in peer ministry. Cassie also served part-time in youth ministry at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Rockford.
Cassie served for ten years at Bethel Lutheran Church in Dallas, TX as Minister to Students and Their Families. During that time, she pursued and earned her Master’s Degree in Youth & Family Ministry from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN, and Tim and Cassie had their two children, Jacob (2008) and Sydney (2012.)
Cassie was called to Faith Lutheran Church and began in March of 2012. Cassie loves nurturing young people, hearing their stories, and sharing her passion for reaching out to others and discipleship with them. Cassie loves to teach and prays that her ministry at Faith would encourage all believers of all ages to continue to strive to grow closer to Jesus each day, and form relationships with others in genuine community that show the light of Christ to the city of Georgetown.
Cassie loves to spend time alone with God, preferably outdoors, and to journal her spiritual journey. She hopes to teach teenagers to spend time alone with God each day and lead parents to be the primary disciplers of their children.
Cassie loves her family, her church, teenagers, coffee, dark chocolate, Tex-Mex, the San Antonio Spurs, swimming, reading, and the fine art of conversation. These days you’ll find her longing for the smell of chlorine, a hike or a nap more often than enjoying any of these, as she spends her days chasing Jesus, teenagers, and her two young children.
